Triangle of Sadness inviger Bergmanveckan!
Fem dagar av film, teater, musik, dans, samtal och performance – programmet för sommarens filmfestival i Bergmans anda är här! Ari Aster, Ewa Fröling, Ruben Östlund, Kaltrina Krasniqi, Sofia Norlin, Fredrik Strage, Victoria Trofimenko och Salad Hilowle är några av gästerna under Bergmanveckan på Fårö 28 juni – 2 juli.
Bergmanveckans hedersgäst Ruben Östlund och hans nya film Triangle of Sadness kommer direkt från tävlan i Cannes till Bergmanveckan på Fårö.
– Vi är så stolta över att att Rubens film kommer att inviga årets upplaga av festivalen, säger Kasia Syty, konstnärlig ledare för Bergmanveckan.
Triangle of Sadness har biopremiär 2 september.
Som tidigare meddelats är årets tema Better Together – Celebrating Sven Nykvist and the Magic of Creative Partnerships. Med den pandemiska isoleringen i färskt minne och i skuggan av det fasansfulla kriget vill vi på Bergmanveckan betona vikten av samarbeten och mötesplatser där kreativiteten kan flöda fritt och dialog uppstå mellan olika kreatörer och genrer. Under festivalens gång kommer spännande filmduos som Mona Masri och Ahmed Abdullahi, Jenifer Malmqvist och Ita Zbroniec-Zajt, Tomas Alfredson och Sara Johnsen att dela med sig av sina erfarenheter av nära samarbeten.
Det blir också en världspremiär av regissören Sofia Norlin och koreografen Gilda Stillbäck projekt The Source – en dansfilm om kamp, hopp och återfödelse. Inspirerade av Sven Nykvists arbete med ljus och skugga fotades The Source på svartvit film, 16 mm, delvis med Sven Nykvists kamera.
Skräckfenomenet Ari Aster kommer att intervjuas exklusivt om sin skräckblandade förtjusning inför det bergmanska lidandet, rysargenren som terapi och om arbetet med sin nya film, den fem timmar långa Disappointment Blvd, där Joaquin Phoenix spelar huvudrollen. Tillsammans med Ewa Fröling kommer han även att introducera sin favoritfilm och årets jubilar Fanny och Alexander för Bergmanveckans publik och bjuda på en sommarpicknick i det fria.

Triangle of Sadness opens Bergman Week!
Five days filled to the brim with film, theatre, dance, music , preformances and art, and talks – the program for this summer’s edition of Bergman Week is here! Ari Aster, Ewa Fröling, Ruben Östlund, Kaltrina Krasniqi, Sofia Norlin, Fredrik Strage, Victoria Trofimenko and Salad Hilowle will be some of the guests during Bergman Week on Fårö June 28–July 2.
Ruben Östlund will be arriving to Fårö fresh from competition in the Cannes film festival with his latest Triangle of Sadness.
– We are really proud to have Ruben’s film inaugurate this year’s Bergman Week, says artistic director of the festival, Kasia Syty.
Triangle of Sadness will have its general cinema release September 2.
The theme for this year’s festival is Better Together – Celebrating Sven Nykvist and the Magic of Creative Partnerships. Keeping in mind the pandemic isolation and the horrendous ongoing war, the Bergman Week would like to emphasize the importance of partnerships and meeting places where creativity can flow freely and dialogue between different creators and genres is possible. During the festival exciting filmmaker duos like Mona Masri and Ahmed Abdullahi, Jenifer Malmqvist and Ita Zbroniec-Zajt, Tomas Alfredson and Sara Johnsen will share their experiences of close collaboration.
Director Sofia Norlin and choreographer Gilda Stillbäck will present their dance film The Source as a world premiere on Bergman Week. Inspired by cinematographer Sven Nykvist and his advanced experimentation with light and shadow, The Source is shot in 16mm bl/w film – partly with Sven Nykvist’s camera.
Director Ari Aster will be interviewed exclusively on his mixed emotions (more delight than awe!) regarding the Bergman trope of human suffering, on horror films as therapy and on his new film, 5-hr long Disappointment Blvd, with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead. In the company of actress Ewa Fröling, Ari Aster will also introduce his favorite Bergman film Fanny och Alexander and invite the audience to a summer picnic in the open Fårö air.

Light Keeps Me Company – Carl-Gustaf Nykvist’s documentary about his father Sven in a digitally restored version.
Special screening of Kaltrina Krasniqi’s Vera Dreams of the Sea – recipient of The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award at Göteborg Film Festival earlier this year.
Ukrainian filmmaker and Bergman Estate-resident Victoria Trofimenko talks about her new film project Yakiv in a work-in-progress.
Bergman Week kicks off June 28 in Fårö Church and will be officially inaugurated by actress Ewa Fröling and Anette Novak, new CEO of the Swedish Film Institute.
