Bergman Week 2026 Opens with World Premiere The Greenest Grass
Actors Vilhelm Blomgren (Midsummer) and Anna Asp (Beck) play the leading roles in Kim Sundbeck’s charming debut film, which will have its world premiere as the opening film at Bergman Week 2026.
“Opening Bergman Week feels both very exciting and a bit nerve-racking. Bergman is a name that carries weight. At the same time, it also feels fitting. When I wrote the script, I watched Scenes from a Marriage to get inspiration for sharp dialogue. I don’t know how well I succeeded, but the fact that it’s now opening the festival suggests that something rubbed off—and that’s a great honor,” says director Kim Sundbeck.
The Malmö couple Sasja and Olivia are stuck in a stagnant relationship and seem to have lost their direction. Burdened by guilt after having an affair, Sasja decides to stage a similar misstep for Olivia. An intricate plan begins to take shape, and the consequences soon spiral out of control. Kim Sundbeck’s feature debut The Greenest Grass is a charming romcom from Möllan, starring Vilhelm Blomgren and Anna Asp.
“Kim Sundbeck’s debut is an absolutely wonderful romantic comedy, and opening Bergman Week with it feels both exciting and prestigious. It also aligns perfectly with this year’s festival theme, Play & Pleasure. The Greenest Grass will give audiences a flying start to this year’s Bergman Week,” says Annie Karlsson, artistic director.
Bergman Week will be inaugurated, as tradition dictates, in Fårö Church on June 22. The opening ceremony will be followed by the premiere screening of The Greenest Grass, shown simultaneously at Bergman Center Cinema and Sudersand Cinema. Tickets will be released on May 18 for Gold Card holders and on May 22 for the general public.
The Greenest Grass is produced by Ann Lundberg for Anagram and is a co-production between SVT, Film i Skåne, and NonStop Winning Formula. It will be distributed in Swedish cinemas by NonStop Entertainment.
