Torment

Bergman's film debut was as a screenwriter for this classic about a rebellious high school student, directed by Alf Sjöberg. Torment is Bergman's debut in the film industry from 1944. Alf Sjöberg directed Bergman's screenplay about a sadistic Latin teacher, Caligula, and his dark pedagogy. 'I despised school as a principle, as a system, and as an institution,' Bergman said in an interview.
